The Role. We are seeking a General Counsel who is experienced and brings substantial legal expertise. You will join a small, dedicated team and provide critical guidance on legal matters, ensuring compliance, and supporting our vision for a future where Grass is pivotal to the internet's evolution.

Comfortable with risk-adjusted thinking and able to discern when flexibility in interpretation is warranted. Ability to make sound legal judgments, applying analytical rigor, prudent risk assessment, and a mix of creativity and pragmatism as necessary. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, tolerate change and ambiguity, and take ownership of projects and tasks while operating in an uncharted regulatory environment. Willingness to roll up sleeves (no job too big, no job too small). Proven ability to work collaboratively in a remote and dynamic environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Hard Skills

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and a current license to practice law. Approximately 6 or more years of relevant corporate legal experience at a leading law firm, or comparable in house practice. Demonstrated expertise in handling complex legal and regulatory matters relevant to a fast-paced, tech-driven environment. Background in drafting and negotiating a wide range of brokerage or other trading-related agreements, and are comfortable interacting with highly-sophisticated institutional clients and counterparties. Experience with exchanges, market making, financial derivatives, cryptocurrency, and open-source software.

What You'll Be Doing.

Lead corporate governance matters for a wide variety of entities and operations. Be the primary point of contact on the team for directors, officers and executives’ legal enquiries. Manage requests related to subsidiary matters received by the team from various departments within the company. Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including business, regulatory, compliance, risk, finance, tax and others. Tackle complex legal issues across multiple domains including regulatory compliance (focusing on data sales, privacy, storage, consumer payouts, NFTs, token/crypto regulations, and SEC guidelines), intellectual property management, contract negotiation, employment law, foundation versus labs activities, investor financing, and foreign market entry. Develop strategies to manage risks and enhance our business acumen while navigating the fast-evolving landscapes of AI, crypto, and big data. Lead project management for legal operations, ensuring effective coordination among internal teams and external legal service providers.
