Alpha Square Group is seeking an experienced Investment Director to fill a full-time position on its Investment Team. The Investment Director will lead the end-to-end deal process including: deal sourcing, deal execution, portfolio management, etc. The successful candidate will evaluate potential investment opportunities, coordinate syndication and negotiate terms for portfolio company financings, interact with and advise portfolio companies with respect to operational activities, and develop and execute portfolio company exit strategies. This requires a proven record of taking ideas and quickly turning them into action. S/he will need 5+ years of deal experience in the Venture Capital/Private Equity space, ideally handling direct investments in growth-to-late stage ventures.

Key responsibilities include:

Sourcing and advisory:

  • Identify and source potential deal opportunities from internal and external networks, PE/VC funds and other investor groups to drive deal flow
  • Attend conferences/workshops to network, gather competitive intelligence, and identify market trends, partnership opportunities, and compelling investment ideas
  • Facilitate and participate in calls, demos, and other meetings with investment prospects
  • Establish, develop and manage relationships with target companies, VC firms, accelerators, incubators and other stakeholders through all phases of the investment process

Assessment phase:

  • Assess business and revenue/profit models of target companies, market dynamics, deal economics and financial potential of investments
  • Work alongside internal business executives and external advisors to assess investment and commercial transaction opportunities
  • Develop investment theses and prepare investment presentations and memoranda

Transaction phase:

  • Manage all aspects of due diligence covering business, financial, tax, legal, operating, etc.
  • Develop final business case with a specific emphasis on the transaction and financial related matters
  • Develop and negotiate deal terms with target companies, VC sponsors or other relevant Stakeholders

Portfolio management:

  • Work with and support portfolio companies, including attending meetings and monitoring performance to ensure returns and strategic objectives are achieved
  • Responsible for managing portfolios and realizing attractive exit opportunities
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and ad hoc projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field (or equivalent experience) required; Master's degree or MBA from a top-tier university preferred
  • At least 3 years of prior venture capital/ private equity investing experience is required. Total 5-10 years of relevant work experience (e.g., venture capital firm, venture-funded startup, top-tier consulting firm, or investment bank)
  • Awareness of the market and a perspective on potential investable market trends; experience identifying and determining opportunities in selected market spaces
  • Deep understanding of the startup ecosystem, networks, and deal sourcing and investment processes, particularly for new technology companies
  • Highly advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including financial modeling, cap table analysis, and business writing
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with proven ability to develop and maintain effective business relationships necessary for sourcing investment opportunities
  • Experience leading deal negotiation, management of counsel, review of legal documents, and understanding of standard venture terms and concepts
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills necessary to handle sensitive information and confidential situations
