Web3 Senior User Researcher, Hubs

Job at Mozilla

San Francisco, California, United States

Full time

The Role

At Mozilla, we believe that the “metaverse” – like the internet itself – should be open and accessible to all. That’s why we’re building Hubs.

Hubs empower communities to gather in safe, private, decentralized virtual spaces where they are in control. Hubs cultivate creativity and connection at a time when online interactions often lack the spontaneity and opportunity to delight, inspire, and build trust between people.

We are currently seeking a Senior Researcher to join the Hubs team who can engage with people to understand their experiences, contexts, motivations, and behaviors in the ambiguous space of emerging technology. We are looking for someone committed to representing users' perspectives to others and is motivated by Mozilla's mission. Join us to be a part of making the way we socialize online more impactful and immersive!

As the Senior UX Researcher, you will own all stages of research projects for Hubs. Working directly with product managers, designers, and engineers, you will be responsible for understanding needs (both with internal partners and external users) and prioritizing research projects. You will be leading and conducting research engagements by developing clear proposals and research plans, which include outlining goals, project scope, target audience, and appropriate generative or evaluative methods. You will be primarily employing qualitative research methods and will be responsible for analyzing findings and presenting them through clear insights. The ultimate goal is to present findings to cross-disciplinary teams and external audiences in a concise and compelling way.

This role will be reporting directly to our Design Manager and will partner with designers, product managers, and developers to bring our customers closer to our development process.

In this role, you are also responsible for:

  • Running end-to-end UX research with a direct focus on customer experience improvements.
  • Collaborating with a team of impactful Product Designers in rapid Design Sprints, improving their own UX practice, and elevating the design team as a whole.
  • Resolving ambiguity by working with high-level requirements to help us ask the right questions and test the right scenarios, bringing together all relevant information to guide our research approach.
  • Driving research for existing experiences and upcoming prototypes, while also finding opportunities for future product development.
  • Staying current on emerging research, industry, and technology trends.
  • Effectively presenting results to a range of partners – executives, engineers, product managers, product designers, and other researchers.
  • Facilitating a user-centered design and product development process that advocates for users’ needs and perspectives;
  • Being the point of contact for design within our large community of users on Discord;
  • Understanding and incorporating sophisticated and complex technical and business requirements into research;

What you bring:

  • Experience owning and leading user research projects in B2C software development with an impact on outcomes.
  • Practical experience with a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods, techniques for synthesis, and testing tools.
  • Deep expertise in remote usability testing, including scenario development, moderated and un-moderated methods, tool selection, quantification of qualitative feedback, and critical analysis.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and present sophisticated concepts across different audiences and varying levels of the organization

Bonus qualifications

  • Experience with VR, Web3, or immersive technology research
  • Experience with research into Accessible Product Design
